Care Programs
Your approach
to pool care matters. Systematic programs offer easy, convenient
pool care that helps prevent problems and keep your family swimming.
Because
no two pool
owners–or even pools– are completely alike, we offer
four unique, easy-to-follow programs to choose from. Find out
which is best suited for you based on the feeling you want from
your pool water and how involved you want to be in pool care.
Then
just follow the steps. Keep up maintenance. And enjoy clear,
beautiful results.
Important note: Ionizers and ozonators are often used for
swimming pool treatment. Even when there are devices present,
it's still necessary to maintain the appropriate level of chlorine
or bromine residual for proper sanitation.
The
BioGuard® Once-A-Week 3 Step Program
If you prefer a chlorinating sanitizing system
that's easy to use, this is the program for you. Ideal for aboveground
and inground pools of almost any size, it works best where there's
good water flow through the skimmer and adequate skimmer basket
area. The pump should circulate 10 to 12 hours a day, but you'll
spend only minutes each week to maintain clear, sparkling, inviting
water. All it takes is three simple steps:

Step 1 • Sanitize with Smart Sticks®
BioGuard® Smart Sticks kill bacteria continuously by maintaining
proper chlorine residual. They last up to twice as long as ordinary
chlorinating sticks, tablets or pucks and only dissolve when
your pump is on–saving you money on sanitizer. Just drop
the recommended number into the skimmer or, for even greater
convenience, use a Smart Bag™ for easy chlorination. Not
recommended for floaters or automatic feeders.

Step 2 • Oxidize with BioGuard®
NEW! Smart Shock®
A smarter way to shock, oxidize, buffer and clarify, multi-functional
Smart Shock also kills and inhibits bacteria growth. And its
special blue algae-fighting crystals kill and suppress algae.
Better still, swimmers can re-enter the pool in as little as
15 minutes after treatment with this premium product that requires
no mixing or pre-dissolving.

Step 3 • Prevent Algae with Back
Up ®
This specially formulated algicide works with other elements
of the program to prevent algae before it starts. No mixing
or pre-dissolving is necessary. It doesn't evaporate or stain
pool surfaces. Long-lasting Back Up works even harder when you
need it most–especially during mid–summer when water
temperatures rise. For pools with attached spas, fountains,
water features or jetted returns, we recommend BioGuard Algae
All 60™
for algae prevention without foaming.
Add Optimizer Plus™
For Extra Sparkle
Use Optimizer Plus™
with all of BioGuard's 3-Step programs. Suppress algae, make
your pool water feel super soft and add a diamond-like sparkle
with Optimizer Plus™.
When it comes to making the program work better, you can't afford
to miss this step.
The
BioGuard® Once-A-Week 3 Step Program
Best suited to busy pools of any size or surface
type, this program should be used with pools featuring a good
water flow through skimmers or equipped with a chlorinator.
Works best when pump circulates for eight hours or more a day
and is effective even with consistently heavy bather loads.
•
Step 1 • Sanitize with Stingy Sticks®
Use
this stabilized chlorinating product to kill bacteria 24 hours
a day. Without stabilizer, free chlorine residuals can be rapidly
dissipated by ultra-violet rays. This hard-working product stays
in the water and can be dispensed through the skimmer or with
an automatic chlorinator.
•
Step 2 • Restore water sparkle with
Burn Out® products or Smart Shock®
Apply burn Out WP (especially for white plaster pools) or Burn
Out 35 every two weeks to remove irritating chloramined and
other water-soluble compounds commonly found in pool water.
Both products destroy bacteria and restore sparkle. Smart Shock
is also a great alternative oxidizer for this program. Simply
follow the instructions for Step 2 under the Once-A-Week program
for best results.

Step 3 • Prevent Algae with Back
Up ®
Stop it before it starts. Back Up helps prevent green, black
and mustard algae. Back Up becomes more active as water temperatures
increase, providing maximum protection when you need it most.
BioGuard®
SoftSwim® Program
Imagine pool water that's incredibly soft and
gentle on hair, skin and eyes! SoftSwim is a non-chlorine program
that's easy as A, B, C; SoftSwim A (algicide), SoftSwim B (sanitizer)
and SoftSwim C (clarifier or shock), to be exact. The products
are liquid so application is a breeze–no mixing or pre-dissolving!
And with the addition of our newest product– SoftSwim Assist®–we've
made the program even better.
Pools with good circulation, a sand filter and less than 25,000
gallons are perfect for the SoftSwim Program. Make sure the
pool pump operates at least 12 hours per day. SoftSwim
comes highly recommended for vinyl-lined pools. Like the other
BioGuard programs, SoftSwim also involves only three easy steps:

What

SoftSwim Algicide works hard to stop algae before it starts.

B
An effective, gentle alternative to chlorinating
sanitizing products, this product is formulated with poly-biguanide,
the main ingredient that produces that super-soft feeling, to
sanitize pool water and control bacteria.

Step 3 • SoftSwim C
This enhanced hydrogen peroxide product
keeps water clear by removing contaminants that cause cloudiness.
SoftSwim C contains special ingredients to keep it active in
the water longer, reducing the applications of clarifier needed.

The only product of its kind, Assist prevents
slime and mold in all non-chlorine pools. Use it as a maintenance
product or to clear up an existing problem with slime or mold.
We recommend you use Assist as part of the SoftSwim program.

Put
the luxury of a European spa in your backyard with new Mineral
Springs by BioGuard®. This simple, one product, once-a-week
pool care program increases your enjoyment and sense of well-being.
A natural, convenient way to generate fantastically silky, dazzling
water and sanitize, Mineral Springs has three basic parts:
Mineral Springs Beginnings™
Adding Beginnings, a proprietary blend
of minerals, is the first step in creating a mineral water bathing
environment. Its essential elements are needed at start-up.
Mineral Springs
Renewal™
Weekly applications of Renewal replenish mineral levels in the
pool and protect the system, keeping water looking and feeling
great.
Mineral
Springs Unit
It consists of an electrolytic cell, an electronic controller
and flow detection switch. The device uses the minerals of Beginnings
and Renewal to produce a chlorinating sanitizer. It's easily
